How much does an online store cost in Mexico in 2026

How much does an online store cost in Mexico: public Shopify and Tiendanube prices with sources, what development really covers, and the hidden costs.

3 min read

If you're asking how much an online store costs, the honest answer is uncomfortable: it depends on whether we're talking about the platform, the build, or the total cost of running it. Most budgets we see fail only accounted for the first one. Here's the breakdown of all three, with public prices where they exist and no invented averages where they don't.

What the platforms cost, with sources

The two platforms we quote most often for Mexican businesses publish their prices:

  • Shopify charges in US dollars even on its Mexico pricing page: the Basic plan costs USD $19 per month, Grow USD $52, and Advanced USD $399, with a discount for annual billing (USD $14, $39, and $299 respectively). Shopify Plus, aimed at large operations, starts at USD $2,300 per month.
  • Tiendanube publishes plans in pesos: there's a free plan, Básico costs $149 MXN per month, the Tiendanube plan $374 MXN, and Avanzado $999 MXN. Watch the fine print: if you don't process payments through Pago Nube, a per-sale fee applies, from 2% on the free plan down to 0.6% on the higher tiers.

If you're a foreign company selling into Mexico, that dollar-vs-peso detail matters more than it looks: Shopify's fee is stable in your currency, while Tiendanube's peso pricing tracks the local market. The platform fee is the most visible cost and almost always the least important one. We compared both platforms in depth in Shopify vs Tiendanube in Mexico, because the right call depends on your stage, not on which monthly fee is lower.

The cost no pricing page shows: the build

Between "I set up a template in one afternoon" and "an agency built my store from scratch" there's an enormous range, which is why nobody serious quotes a figure without seeing your case. What we can tell you is what moves that cost:

The starting point. A well-configured template covers most small catalogs. Cost climbs when you need custom design, features the template doesn't ship with, or integrations with your inventory, invoicing, or logistics.

The catalog. Loading 30 products with good photos and copy is not the same job as migrating 3,000 SKUs with variants out of a legacy spreadsheet.

SEO from day one. A store launched without a category structure built for search, without product structured data, and without original copy is born invisible. Fixing that later costs more than doing it right at launch.

The integrations. Wiring up local payment gateways, carriers, and Mexican CFDI electronic invoicing is real work. It's also the difference between a store that runs itself and one that makes you capture everything twice.

Be suspicious of any quote that just says "online store" next to a round number. Ask for the breakdown: which template or custom design, how many products loaded, which integrations, which SEO deliverables.

The recurring costs that will show up no matter what

This is where optimistic budgets break. Running a store involves:

  1. Payment fees. Every gateway takes a percentage per transaction. Not negotiable: it's how online payments work everywhere.
  2. Apps and subscriptions. Reviews, shipping, invoicing, email. Few stores run on the base plan alone, and every app adds its own monthly fee.
  3. Maintenance. Updates, backups, support when something breaks on a payday Friday. Cheap without maintenance gets expensive within a year.
  4. Traffic. The prettiest store in the world sells nothing without visitors. Budget for content and rankings from the start: we published market ranges with sources in how much SEO costs in Mexico.

How to budget without fooling yourself

Run the math from your margin, not from the vendor's price. If your average order leaves $200 MXN of profit, you need volume to cover platform, fees, and traffic, so start with the minimum investment that validates demand. If you sell high tickets or get frequent repeat purchases, skimping on the technical base costs you sales every single day.

The right question isn't "which store is cheapest?", it's "how much does each sale cost me with this setup?". A poorly built store with a low monthly fee can be the most expensive option on the table.

Where we come in

We build stores on Shopify as a Shopify development agency: setup with SEO from launch, Mexican payment and invoicing integrations, and a site that loads fast on the phone where your customer actually buys. Our ranges are published on the pricing page, no surprise quotes. And if your case is better served by a free Tiendanube plan and an afternoon of setup, we'll tell you so on the first call.
