How to verify your business on Google in Mexico

The Google Business Profile verification methods, why you can't choose which one you get, how to prepare for video verification without failing it, and what to do if you're rejected.

4 min read

Verification is what separates a profile that exists from a profile people see. And it is where most businesses get stuck, almost always for the same reason: they attempt video verification without preparing anything, fail it, and come away feeling Google rejected them.

Google didn't reject you. You couldn't demonstrate what it asked you to demonstrate. That is different, and it is fixable.

You don't choose the method: Google assigns it

This is the first misunderstanding to clear up. The possible methods are video, phone, text message, email, postcard and Search Console, but which ones you are offered depends on your business type, your category and your country. It is not an open menu.

The official verification documentation describes each method. What isn't always clear there is the practical part: in Mexico, for businesses with walk-in customers, video is the most frequent. So it is worth preparing for that scenario even if you expect another.

If you get an easier method, great. But plan for the hard one.

Video verification, the one people fail

It is a continuous recording, no cuts and no editing, in which you have to demonstrate three things. Not two. Three.

  1. That the location is the one you declared. Filmed from the street: visible street number, the business signage, surrounding references like the corner or neighboring shops. The idea is that the place can be located without your help.
  2. That the business genuinely operates there. You go in and film the interior: service area, furniture, work equipment, inventory, staff if there are any. An empty unit or an office with no signs of activity isn't enough.
  3. That you manage it. This is where almost everyone fails, because they film the first two points and stop. You need to show privileged access: unlocking with your key, entering the stockroom or a restricted area, showing business documentation in your name, the payment terminal, the management system.

How we prepare before filming

  • Rehearse the full walkthrough once without recording. Street, storefront, entrance, interior, privileged access, documents. In that order.
  • Have documents ready and within reach: tax registration, proof of address in the business name, or the lease agreement. Don't go hunting for them mid-recording.
  • Film during the day, with good light, and during operating hours so real activity is visible.
  • Don't cut. One single take. If you make a mistake, start over.
  • Talk. Narrate what you are showing: the business name, the address, what each area is. Not mandatory, but it helps the reviewer.
  • Make sure the signage is legible. If you don't have signage, install it before attempting verification. It is the single piece of evidence that carries the most weight.

The hard cases in Mexico

I work from home and receive clients. If you genuinely receive clients at a residential address, that is a walk-in business and you will have to prove it. If you don't receive clients, it isn't: it is a service area business, and declaring the wrong model is a cause of suspension. The model choice happens before verifying, not after. We explain it in the profile setup guide.

Virtual office or coworking. Addresses where you have no staffed presence of your own don't qualify. A desk in a coworking space without your signage is very hard to sustain on video. Resolve it properly before attempting.

Multiple locations. Each location is verified separately, with its own evidence. There is no bulk verification for a small business, and listings sharing evidence across locations is a pattern Google detects.

The business changed owners. Don't verify on someone else's profile: request ownership first. There is a process for that and it is the right path, even if it is slower.

If you're rejected

A rejection doesn't close the door, but repeating the same thing doesn't open it either.

  1. Identify what was missing. It is almost always point 3: you proved existence, not management.
  2. Fix the material problem, not the recording. If you had no signage, install it. If you had no documents in the business name, get them. Re-filming the same thing with a better camera changes nothing.
  3. Try another method if Google offers you one. Sometimes alternatives appear after a failed attempt.
  4. Don't create a new profile. This is the mistake that turns a pending process into a duplicate, which is a violation. We see it often and it is the most expensive one to undo. It is covered in Google Business Profile suspended.

After verifying

Verification publishes you, it doesn't rank you. Two different things, and the order matters: exist first, compete second. What comes next is primary category, services, reviews and consistency with your site, and it is all in the setup guide and the local SEO guide for Mexico.

If you have already failed video verification more than once, or your case is one of the hard ones above, that is exactly the kind of work we do in our local SEO and Google Business Profile service. We prepare the walkthrough, the documentation and the correct business model before you spend another attempt.
