Headless commerce development
We build your store on an open source headless stack: a Medusa backend that is yours and a custom Next.js storefront. No monthly rent tied to a closed platform and no per-sale platform fee. It takes more upfront investment than a template, but the control and freedom pay off once you sell at scale.
Tell us about your projectWhat you get
Your own Medusa backend
We stand up MedusaJS as the commerce core. The code and database live in your infrastructure, not on a platform that rents your business back to you.
Custom Next.js storefront
A fast, made-to-measure frontend, not a forced template. Design, checkout flows and speed tuned to exactly what your brand needs.
Zero lock-in
No binding contracts and no platform commission per sale. If you ever want to move hosting or switch providers, you can: it is your code.
Integrations Shopify charges for
Payment gateways, ERP, inventory, subscriptions or custom business logic. No dependence on marketplace apps with extra monthly fees.
Technical SEO from the ground up
Server rendering, product schema, sitemap and healthy Core Web Vitals. The store ships ready to rank, not patched together later.
Docs and handover
You receive the repository, access and documentation. Your team can run and grow the store without being tied to us.
How we work
- 01
Fit assessment
We review your volume, catalog and needs. If headless is overkill for your stage, we say so plainly and propose something simpler.
- 02
Architecture and scope
We define the Medusa data model, integrations and storefront map. We agree on clear scope before any code is written.
- 03
Backend and data
We configure Medusa, products, regions, payments and business rules on your own database and infrastructure.
- 04
Custom storefront
We build the Next.js frontend: design, checkout and performance. We test on real data before going to production.
- 05
Launch and handover
We deploy, migrate data if needed and hand over the repo, access and documentation. We stay close during the first days live.
Frequently asked questions
What is headless commerce and why go headless?
Headless separates the backend (where products, orders and payments live) from the frontend the customer sees. That gives you a store with no lock-in: a custom storefront and full freedom to change design or integrations without fighting a closed platform.
Why MedusaJS instead of another headless platform?
Medusa is open source and mature: the code is yours, it runs on your database and there is no per-sale license fee. We think it is the best headless backend when you want real control and room to grow without cost surprises.
How is this different from a Shopify store?
Shopify is fast to start, but you rent the platform and many features arrive through paid apps. With an open source stack the control is yours and you avoid platform commissions. It is more upfront investment in exchange for long-term freedom.
When does a store without Shopify make sense and when not?
It makes sense if you have volume, a complex catalog or needs Shopify cannot cover without expensive apps. If you are just starting and selling little, Shopify is usually the sensible choice, and we will tell you honestly in the assessment.
Is the store really mine, with no lock-in?
Yes. We hand over the repository, the database and all access. There is no platform sales commission and no forced dependence on us: it is genuinely commerce without lock-in.
What about maintenance after launch?
A headless stack needs its own maintenance: updates, hosting and monitoring. We can handle it with a support plan, or train your team to run it. We define this based on what you prefer.
Can I migrate my catalog and orders from another platform?
Yes. We migrate products, customers and history when the source allows it. We check data quality first so nothing gets lost in the move.
What payment and logistics integrations are supported?
Medusa integrates the most common gateways and services, and because it is ecommerce open source we can build connections to your ERP, inventory or carriers if they do not exist out of the box.
How much does headless commerce development cost?
It depends on scope: catalog, integrations and the level of the custom storefront. We do not quote blind. Check the plans on the pricing page or tell us your case and we will send a concrete proposal.
How do we start and what is the next step?
We start with a short assessment to validate whether headless is right for your stage. Tell us about your project and, if it fits, we send architecture and scope before committing anything.
Your store, your code, your database
Headless commerce is not for everyone, and that is exactly what makes it powerful when it fits. Tell us about your project and we will validate together whether Medusa is your next step.
